Exploring the Gospel of Luke **

This lecture will open up the gems in the Gospel of Luke. It will give background to the formation of the gospel and the intention of the author. Then it will open up the main themes of the Gospel: the anointing of the Holy Spirit on Jesus, Mary as the first disciple, the centrality of prayer, the gift of healing, the journey to Jerusalem, ministry with and for the poor, Jesus’ heart of mercy and more. Plunge into Luke’s gospel and you will discover Jesus in a fresh and new way.

Do Christians Need Philosophy?

The Church declares that Christ is the fullness of Revelation, so why would a Christian bother studying philosophy? Especially those thinkers who came before Jesus; surely there is no point studying pagan thinkers when we have access to the full revelation of Christ?

Christian Iconography: Making the Invisible Visible

“The beauty of the images moves me to contemplation" St. John Damascene.

This lecture will explore the gift of Christian iconography while participants each make an icon of Mary (to take away). This will involve making and using egg tempera and gilding. A donation of $20 cash is asked to cover materials (including board, paint brush, pigment). To be able to complete the icon, you may be encouraged to continue to work on your icon for up to 30 minutes during free time. BYO notebook.

Pilgrims of Hope: Jubilee, Rome, and the Renewal of the Church

Pope Francis has invited the young people of the world to join him on pilgrimage to Rome in 2025 as Pilgrims of Hope in the Year of Jubilee. But what is a Year of Jubilee and why do we celebrate it? Why is pilgrimage so important? In this lecture we break open pilgrimage and jubilee, and how they help us encounter the traditions of the Church in Rome and the Renewal of the Church in the power of the Holy Spirit.
